Rep. Bill Pascrell goes after GOP colleague: ‘Are you serious?’

October 29, 2013

There was a tense moment at Tuesday's Obamacare hearing in the House, when Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.) directly addressed Republicans for trying to "dismantle" President Obama's signature health-care law.

After Pascrell noted that the law forces insurers to cover preexisting conditions, Rep. Tim Griffin (R-Ark.) said Pascrell was offering a "false choice" and said that he supports alternative legislation that would do the same thing without the massive health-care law.

"Are you serious, what you just said?" Pascrell said, standing and becoming visibly angry. "Are you really serious? After what we have gone through? After what we've gone through in the last three and a half years? You can sit there and say that you had a legitimate alternative? After these years? We've gone through 44 votes -- 48 votes now -- of you trying to dismantle this legislation. You call that cooperation? I don't."
