Virginia state Sen. Creigh Deeds tweeted a message to supporters and friends after being released from the hospital Friday morning, just three days after he was apparently stabbed by his son, who later shot and killed himself.

On Tuesday, Deeds, the 2009 Democratic nominee for Virginia governor, was repeatedly stabbed in the face and upper torso by his son, Austin "Gus" Deeds.
The younger Deeds had been undergoing mental health evaluations.
