Alex Sink has big cash lead in Florida special election

Former Florida gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink (D) has raised $1.1 million so far for her special election campaign and has $1 million cash on hand, far outpacing her GOP opponents.

The former state chief financial officer announced the total Thursday -- the same day that GOP hopeful and state Rep. Kathleen Peters announced $170,000 raised and $18,000 cash on hand, and another GOP candidate, David Jolly, announced $338,000 raised and $142,000 cash on hand.

The three are running for the late former congressman Bill Young's (R-Fla.) swing seat.

The special election is likely to be a focal point for the national media as a bellwether for the 2014 election. The GOP primary is happening later this month, while the special election will be held in March.
