A personal photo album intended for one of the first family's closest friends ended up at the wrong address in Chicago, the White House confirmed Thursday.
The Obamas had sent the album to Kaye Wilson, who is a good friend of Michelle Obama and her mother Marian Robinson and is a godmother to Malia and Sasha. But Chicago resident Alane Church told NBC's ‘Today Show" Thursday that his family had gotten it in the bottom of a package they had received from a relative in New York.
"The gifts were broken opened. Parts of the old box were in this box repackaged," said Church, whose family received the package on Tuesday. "In the bottom of the box was the extra gift, and we were reading the tag, trying to figure out, you know, where this came from and it was opened. We discovered this was a personal gift for Mama Kaye."
"Mama Kaye" is Wilson's nickname.
A White House official said the first family appreciated the fact that the gift had been located and brought to their attention.
"The president and first lady sent a book of photos to their children's godmother for Christmas," said the official, who asked not to be identified because it involved a personal matter. "There was an errant delivery but we're appreciative of the effort underway to make sure the gift arrives at the intended destination soon."
