Wendy Davis hires chief Obama pollster

Democrat Wendy Davis has hired some high-profile help for her Texas gubernatorial campaign, bringing in President Obama's chief pollster, Joel Benenson.

Benenson's hiring was confirmed to the Washington Post by two people familiar with it. Obama's campaign employed several pollsters, but Benenson led the effort.

Davis's campaign has been working with another pollster, Anna Greenberg.

Davis announced this week that she raised $12 million in the fourth quarter of 2013.

She is likely to face state Attorney General Greg Abbott (R) in the general election. Abbott is considered a heavy favorite, but Davis's quest to stop new abortion restrictions that were later passed by the GOP-controlled state legislature has turned her into a longshot candidate who is getting an inordinate amount of attention.
