Ayotte says Russia reset has failed

Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) said Sunday that President Obama's first-term promise of a new and better relationship with Russia has failed.

Former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton gave the Russian foreign minister a “reset” button in 2009 on behalf of the Obama administration.

“It is time to reset the reset," Ayotte said on "Fox News Sunday," adding that the conflict in Ukraine presents an opportunity for Obama to put pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin. She said the administration needs to "send a clear, unequivocal, public message to Putin not to interfere in what is happening in Ukraine – to let the Ukrainian people determine their future, to ensure that there is [no] interference in their sovereignty."

Ayotte said the conflicts in Syria and Ukraine, as well as Russia's granting of asylum to National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden, are proof that the administration's policy toward Russia has failed.
