Obamas wrap up getaway in Key Largo

KEY LARGO, Fla. – President Obama wrapped up a 1 ½-day getaway here at the Ocean Reef resort Sunday with a second round of golf in as many days, and headed back to Washington.

Obama spent the weekend with first lady Michelle Obama, daughters Malia and Sasha, and an assortment of friends, including former NFL star Ahmad Rashad and former NBA star Alonzo Mourning, both of whom joined the president on the links.

White House aides emphasized that Obama kept closed tabs on the unfolding situation in Ukraine, calling several world leaders and getting his daily classified security briefing from aides who accompanied him to Key Largo.

Aides did not provide more details about the president’s activities at the exclusive resort, saying only that Obama was spending personal time with his family. The first couple boarded the Marine One helicopter on a private airstrip at the resort and enjoyed a scenic right to Homestead Air Reserve Base, where they boarded Air Force One for the trip back to Washington.

This week, Obama will welcome college sports teams to the White House on Monday and travel to New York for Democratic fundraisers on Tuesday, officials said. He will attend meetings at the White House on Wednesday through Friday, including meeting with with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk on Wednesday.
