Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that, despite their frosty relationship and the worst U.S.-Russian relations since the Cold War, President Obama would pluck him out of the water if he were drowning.
On Friday, Obama said that he would, in fact, rescue Putin.
“I’d absolutely save Mr. Putin if he were drowning. I’d like to think if anyone was out there drowning, I'd save them,” Obama told reporters after being asked, according to our colleague Juliet Eilperin, who is traveling with the president in Seoul.
Obama is no stranger to water. After all, he grew up in Hawaii, where there are, you know, just a couple of surf spots and beautiful beaches.
“I used to be a pretty good swimmer," Obama said. "I grew up in Hawaii.”
Obama might want to have a life buoy on hand, though. He cautioned that he’s “a little out of practice.”
