An interesting quote from David A. Fahrenthold's great look at Sen. Mark Pryor's (D-Ark.) reelection campaign:
“I’m really the most independent senator in Washington,” Pryor told a group of about 25 supporters here in the rice-country town of Hazen. “I’m not there to represent the president and his party. I’m not there to oppose the president and his party. I’m there to represent Arkansas.”
Democrats running for reelection in red states, of course, have to distance themselves from their national party when it comes to President Obama and Obamacare — along with issues like the Keystone XL pipeline and other things.
Of course, that's quite different from pretending like you're not a member of the president's political party.Update 7:24 a.m.: Pryor's campaign says that the quote, in context, was a reference to him having served under both Obama, a Democrat, and George W. Bush, a Republican.
