House Republicans reserve $30 million in fall airtime

The National Republican Congressional Committee has reserved more than $30 million in fall airtime in 26 U.S. House districts, nearly two-thirds of which are controlled by Democrats.

The House Republican campaign arm has reserved $18.7 million for 17 Democratic seats and another $11.5 million to defend Republican seats.

The NRCC is putting more than $3 million toward targeting three Democratic incumbents in California: Reps. Ami Bera, Raul Ruiz and Scott Peters. It is also devoting more than $1 million to defending Rep. David Valadao (R-Calif.).

The committee is spending nearly $3 million targeting a pair of Democrats in Arizona: Reps. Ron Barber and Ann Kirkpatrick.

The NRCC's announcement comes as House Majority PAC, a Democratic super PAC, just made its second wave of fall reservations, dishing out $6.2 million across 22 media markets, many of which overlap with the NRCC's reserves.

In Colorado's 3rd district, where Rep. Mike Coffman (R) is one of the most vulnerable incumbents of 2014, the NRCC has committed more than $3 million to shore him up against Democrat Andrew Romanoff.

Fall ad reservations are subject to change -- the buy sizes are not set in stone.

The Republican House majority is safe this midterm year, strategists in both parties say. Democrats have virtually no shot at picking up the 17 seats they need to win the majority. House Republicans have been talking publicly about gaining seats.
