Scott Brown’s sister talks of childhood abuse in new ad that aims to show personal side

Former Massachusetts senator Scott Brown (R) is turning to his little sister to help him make the case that he should return to the Senate from New Hampshire.

In a new TV ad shared with Post Politics, Brown's sister LeeAnn Riley says Brown was there to protect her against abuse as a child. The experience shaped him as an adult, she adds.

"We moved a lot. Our mom was married and divorced many times. There was physical abuse in the home. But Scott was there to protect myself and my mom," she says in the ad.

In his 2011 book, Brown detailed the physical abuse he endured from stepfathers and others.

Brown is the frontrunner for the Republican nomination to face Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.). Recent polling shows Shaheen leading Brown by between three and 12 points.

The ad will start airing Thursday on WMUR, WBIN and cable networks, Brown's campaign said.
