‘The Dude’ for Senate? Not going to happen.

Montana Democrats need a U.S. Senate nominee. Lizbeth Pratt has a suggestion: Actor Jeff Bridges.

But as his famous "Big Lebowski" character "The Dude," would say, "Yeah, well, you know, that's just like your opinion, man."

Bridges, who has a home in Paradise Valley, is not ready to become a candidate for elected office just yet. He said in an interview on Howard Stern's radio show Monday that his wife isn't a fan of the idea of him running. "Don't even think about it," is how Bridges said she put it.

Pratt, who lives in Billings, started a petition on Change.org to encourage Bridges to run. It attracted more than 1,100 signatures.

"I look down and see this thing, Jeff Bridges for senator, and I say what?" explained the actor.

Sen. John Walsh (D-Mont.) dropped out of the race last week amid plagiarism allegations. Montana Democrats will gather at a Saturday convention to choose his replacement. Rep. Steve Daines (R) is favored to win the seat.
