Below are step-by-step instructions on how to upload your photos. Here are a few other reminders: Read the rules. They are boring but important. We are not accepting photos via email. You must upload your photo via the submission page. If you have problems submitting, read the step-by-step below and then ask for assistance via email: firstname.lastname@example.org with “Travel Photo Contest” in the subject line.
STEP 1: You must be signed in to your washingtonpost.com account to submit a photo. This is the same account you may already use for commenting on our site. Don’t have an account? Click “register” to create one.
STEP 2: Once you are signed in, you should be redirected to the submission page. If not, please navigate back to the submission page. Click browse to upload your photo.
STEP 3: Select your photo from you computer as you would attach a photo to an email. We suggest you upload the highest quality version of the photo you have up to 5 MB in size. Remember, choose carefully because we only accept one photo per person. If you submit more than one, we will use only the first photo you submit.
STEP 4: Wait for the upload. It should not take more than a couple minutes. If the spin wheel icon persists beyond a few minutes, try using a computer with a faster Internet connection or a different browser.
STEP 5: This is the most complicated step. A thumbnail image should appear (NOTE: vertical-oriented photos will not have a proper thumbnail. Do not worry, we receive vertical photos just fine.). Below that, you should see a spot for your caption information. That is where you put the location of your photo and date of photograph. This information will be public. Below that, there is a private field for your contact information: email address, phone number, and full name. When you’re all done, click submit.
STEP 6: You’re done! When you see the confirmation message, your photo has been submitted. We do not send you a confirmation email. You can check if your photo has been submitted by returning to the site after 24 hours — you should see your photo among those in the gallery.
