Nearly 50 years after he captivated the National Mall and the nation with his famous “I Have a Dream”speech, Martin Luther King Jr. now has a permanent home in the district.
The memorial, which officially opens to the public Monday after 14 years of planning, is located next to the Tidal Basin. President Barack Obama and others will speak at the memorial dedication ceremony on Aug. 28, 48 years to the day after the “I Have a Dream” speech, which took place nearby.
