Accident closes northbound BW Parkway

Authorities shut down northbound lanes of the Baltimore Washington Parkway in the Laurel area Thursday night after a car with four people inside ran off the parkway and into the woods.

Two people were critically injured and two others were seriously injured in the accident about 10:15 p.m., said Sgt. David Schlosser, a U.S. Park Police spokesman.

All four people were trapped in the vehicle, and had to be rescued, said Mark Brady, a spokesman for the Prince George’s County fire department. Officials closed the highway to land helicopters to fly at least two people to hospitals, Brady said.

Police shut down the road just north of Route 197, Schlosser said. The road was expected to be closed for several hours as police investigate.
