Beer truck spills cargo on I-270

This post has been updated.

An overturned beer truck wreaked havoc on Interstate 270 after spilling its load on the highway early Thursday.

According to police, the 18-wheel tractor-trailer was carrying cases of beer on I-270 North when it crashed near the Frederick County-Montgomery County border around 4 a.m.

Watch ABC7 video of the wreckage:

Police say the driver was attempting to avoid debris on the road when it rolled over, striking a guardrail before landing on its side.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and no serious injuries were reported, but traffic was tied up in both directions for more than six hours.

The truck and beer cans — which spilled onto the highway and the median — blocked I-270’s northbound lanes, with traffic getting by only on the right shoulder. Southbound lanes became jammed due to rubber-necking.

All lanes of I-270 have since reopened.
