Original post: The Blossom Kite Festival, part of the 2011 National Cherry Blossom Festival, has been postponed because of a not-so-friendly forecast for Sunday. It was originally scheduled to take place from 10
a.m. to 4 p.m., but forecasters are saying there could be 1 inch or so of snow in the area Sunday.
Festival organizers said they’ll announce a new date for the kites on Monday.
The festival kicks off tomorrow with family day at the National Building Museum.
National Park Service officials have said the cherry blossoms’ peak blooming time will probably be shorter this year, from about March 29 to April1, though their overall blooming period may be extended by the chillier weather.
