A Virginia couple is mourning the death of their daughter after learning that her body was found in disaster-ravaged Japan, where she had been teaching English.
Taylor Anderson’s family said in a statement that the U.S. Embassy in Japan informed them Monday of the discovery of their 24-year-old daughter’s body. Andy and Jean Anderson also thanked people for their support and assistance in trying to find Taylor since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
Jean Anderson said her daughter was last seen after the earthquake riding her bike away from an Ishinomaki elementary school after making sure parents picked up their children. A tsunami struck shortly after the earthquake.
Anderson is the first American known to be killed in the earthquake and Tsunami.
