Columbus Day openings, closings and more

Monday is Columbus Day. Here are some things to be aware of in the Washington area during the federal holiday, including bank, school and business closings.

The District

Traffic and parking: No meter enforcement.

Trash and recycling: Trash and recycling pickups slide one day through the end of the week. Transfer station closed.

Liquor stores: Open at owner’s discretion.

Schools: Closed.

Libraries: Closed.

Local government offices: Closed.

Maryland

Traffic and parking: Parking fees will be enforced in Montgomery, Anne Arundel and Howard counties. No fees in Prince George’s, except at the New Carrollton garage and National Harbor.

Trash and recycling: Regular pickups will take place in Anne Arundel, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. Landfills are open and the Montgomery transfer station open.

Liquor stores: Open.

Schools: Open except in Calvert and St. Mary’s counties.

Libraries: Closed except in Anne Arundel, Frederick and Prince George’s counties.

Local government offices: Open except in Charles, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s counties.

Virginia

Traffic and parking: HOV restrictions are lifted on I-66, I-395, 1-95 and the Dulles Toll Road. There will be no meter enforcement in Alexandria and Arlington.

Trash and recycling: Regular pickups except in Alexandria city, where pickups delayed one day. Landfills are open.

Liquor stores: Open.

Schools: Closed except in Prince William.

Libraries: Closed.

Local government offices: Closed except in Fairfax City.
