Lightning from thunderstorms rumbling through the Washington region Wednesday night is believed to have sparked two house fires in Loudoun County, fire officials said.

The first blaze was reported a little after 10 p.m. at a home on Wildrose Court in Ashburn. It was followed by a fire reported at a home on Summer Breeze Court in Sterling about 10:30 p.m.

The homes suffered property damage, but no injuries were reported.

While Wednesday’s storms have largely cleared out, another band of clouds and showers are expected to hit the area Thursday afternoon before skies clear and temperatures drop in the evening hours.
