Woman struck, killed by Red Line train at Takoma station

Updated, 3:30 p.m.: Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said an 18-year-old female died after she appeared to have gotten onto the tracks of the Red Line at the Takoma station Wednesday morning and was struck by a train.

Rescue personnel and Metro Transit Police responded to the scene when the person was struck at 9:29 a.m.

Stessel said the incident was “believed to be intentional.”

Trains have returned to normal service but there were some residual delays in the late morning.

Metro Transit Police are investigating, Stessel said.
