Police investigate possible drowning of baby

Prince George’s County police are investigating a possible drowning of a baby at a home in Beltsville, authorities said Tuesday.

Police were called to the 11300 block of Evans Trail about 10:30 a.m. for a report of an unresponsive baby, said Cpl. Mike Rodriguez, a Prince George’s County police spokesman. Rodriguez said “it looks like it’s possibly a drowning.” He added that police were unsure of the circumstances.

The investigation follows the apparent drowning death Monday night of a 6-year-old girl found unresponsive in a bath tub in Landover. Cpl. Evan Baxter, another police spokesman, said Tuesday morning that they do not believe foul play was involved in that drowning, though detectives were still awaiting the findings of an autopsy.

Less than 10 days ago, on Aug. 18, a one-year-old baby drowned in a hotel bathtub in Reston.
