Smoke, but no fire, at Chief Ike’s

An overheated heater and air conditioner unit produced smoke and brought D.C. firefighters to an Adams Morgan club Tuesday night, officials said.

Firefighters were called to Chief Ike’s Mambo Room in the 1700 block of Columbia Road NW about 8:30 p.m., said Pete Piringer, a spokesman. No fire was reported, but fire and health department officials had to investigate the building to ensure there was no saftey hazards caused by the smoke, he said.

No one was injured during the incident.
