The Gaithersburg man held in Aruba in connection with the disappearance of a Maryland woman is due in court Wednesday for a hearing at which he may learn whether he will continue to be detained.
Gary Giordano, 50, has been held in the island nation since Aug. 5, three days after his traveling companion, 35-year-old Robyn Gardner of Frederick County went missing. Giordano told authorities that the two had gone snorkeling in an area known as “Baby Beach,” according to authorities in Aruba, but Gardner didn’t make it back to shore.
“He is suspected of involvement in the missing of Ms. Gardner,” a spokeswoman for the Aruba public prosecutor’s office told the Post’s Dan Morse.
On Aug. 15, nearly two weeks after the disappearance, a judge in Aruba ordered Giordano to be held for an additional 16 days as the investigation continued. Giordano has not been charged in the case.
Giordano could learn today whether he will be detained any longer or released. Stay with PostLocal.com for the latest updates.
