Toddler found wandering alone and shoeless in PG neighborhood

A toddler was found wandering alone, shoeless and carrying a plate of food late Thursday afternoon in a Hyattsville-area neighborhood near FedEx Field, Prince George’s County said.

Officers found the child, a boy believed to be less than 2 years old, after a resident called police to report the child walking alone in the 600 block of Garrett A. Morgan Blvd about 5:30 p.m., said Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a police spokesman. The caller told police that the boy was wearing blue jeans, a blue shirt and holding a dish of food, he said.

Police saw no signs of injury or trauma to the boy, but transported him to a hospital for evaluation.

Authorities used a police dog to try to track where the child came from and to help find his parents or guardian. But as of shortly before 8 p.m., police had not found them or the boy’s home, Copeland said. Police notified the county’s child protective services agency.

No further details were immediately available.
