U-Va. probes incidents targeting Jewish students

Two weekend incidents targeting a Jewish student are being investigated by University of Virginia police.

University spokeswoman Carol Wood tells The Daily Progress that someone wrote a slur against Jews on the student’s whiteboard. An Israeli flag was stolen from his door less than 24 hours later.

The student, Keenan Davis, contends that the incidents are linked to allegations of hazing at a fraternity.

According to court records, a 19-year-old pledge was hospitalized March 1 after he ate a meal of dog food, matzo balls, gefilte fish and soy sauce as part of a fraternity tradition.

In an open letter, Davis writes that the juxtaposition of dog food to traditional Jewish fare isn’t a coincidence.
