As DeMatha Coach Mike Jones indicated last month, Stags sophomore center BeeJay Anya was named to the USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team on Thursday.

After a strong sophomore season, BeeJay Anya is getting plenty of notice.

Anya, who is 6 feet 8 and 290 pounds, had a breakout season, earning attention from college coaches across the nation as he averaged 8.9 points and was a presence inside at both ends of the court.
Twenty-four players were invited to training camp in mid-June in Colorado Springs, where coaches – including Jones, who is an assistant coach for the team – will pick a 12-player roster to compete in the FIBA Americas Under-16 Championship from July 21 to 25 in Leon, Mexico. The top three teams in that tournament qualify for the 2012 under-17 world championship in Lithuania.
