One of the Washington area’s top basketball players in the class of 2013 has begun to narrow his college choices.

Yep, DeMatha center BeeJay Anya has trimmed his list to 16 schools, all of which have offered scholarships.

The list includes three members of this weekend’s Final Four: Ohio State, Kansas and Louisville. Also, soon-to-be ACC members Syracuse and Pittsburgh. The Virginias: U-Va., Tech and West. And in no particular order: Rutgers, Memphis, UCLA, Arizona, Indiana, Notre Dame, Seton Hall and DePaul.

“I’m just trying to take it one step at a time right now,” Anya said.

Anya, who is 6 feet 9 and 270 pounds, will attend USA Basketball’s tryouts in Colorado Springs in June for the under-17 world championships in Lithuania later this summer. He also hopes to start taking college visits and cutting his options.

“Definitely distance is going to be a factor and timing and where I can go with AAU season starting up,” Anya said.
