After months of being recruited by many of the nation’s top football programs, Friendship Collegiate defensive lineman Eddie Goldman has reached crunch time. He’s a week away from National Signing Day on Feb. 1 and he has yet to finalize his decision, according to his high school coach Aazaar Abdul-Rahim.
Goldman, a 6-foot-4, 315-pound senior, will spend the next week choosing between Alabama, Auburn and Florida State, Abdul-Rahim said. He said Goldman also will cut off contact with schools to focus on making his choice. “He is just going to talk with his family and come to a decision,” Abdul-Rahim said.
Alabama Coach Nick Saban and Auburn Coach Gene Chizik have already made in-home visits with Goldman, Abdul-Rahim said. Coach Jimbo Fisher of Florida State, whose school is believed to be the front-runner for Goldman, paid a visit to the school on Tuesday — and will be the last coach to see him.
With Goldman focusing on those three schools, that means California, Clemson, Maryland and Miami — all schools in his August list of seven finalists — are out of the running. Goldman took four of his allowed five official visits: Alabama, Auburn, Florida State and Miami.
Abdul-Rahim said Goldman will announce his decision on national television the morning of Feb. 1. He added the Knights could have between 16 and 18 seniors signing letters of intent — a school record.
