Is Maryland about to land its biggest recruit yet this offseason?
That is what some local football observers are speculating as Good Counsel running back Wes Brown, a second-team All-Met, is expected to announce his college choice during Thursday night’s Under Armour All-American Game, which will be broadcast on ESPN.
Brown, who is 6 feet and 200 pounds, has narrowed his choices to Maryland, Vanderbilt, Colorado and Miami, according to former Good Counsel assistant coach Bernie Dancel, with whom Brown lives. Dancel’s son, Zach, a safety, announced Wednesday that he will transfer to Maryland from New Mexico.
Brown missed one game and parts of three others because of a knee injury this past season, but still rushed for 1,382 yards and 22 touchdowns as the Falcons went 12-0 and won their third consecutive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title. After returning from the injury, he posted five consecutive 100-yard games, totaling 918 yards and 14 touchdowns during the stretch.
