North Carolina makes scholarship offer to Gonzaga basketball player Nate Britt

North Carolina Coach Roy Williams was back at Gonzaga before school Wednesday morning, assistants Steve Robinson and C.B. McGrath in tow, to take one more look at Gonzaga junior guard Nate Britt.

After their second predawn trip in three weeks to the Northwest Washington school to see Britt work out, the Tar Heels extended a scholarship offer the returning All-Met.

“It’s a good feeling that your services are wanted, however we are in the same place we were before,” said Nate Britt Sr., who also coaches his son’s summer club team. “We knew they were interested. You still have to go through and evaluate everybody like they evaluated us and see which is going to be the best fit.”

The younger Britt has a slew of scholarship offers and is believed to be considering those from Maryland, Georgetown, Virginia, North Carolina Villanova, Arizona and UCLA. Duke also is recruiting Britt, but has yet to offer a scholarship.

“We’ve spoken to [Duke] a couple times,” Britt Sr. said. “They have interest in Nate, but right now they’re trying to figure out what they already have. They had a pretty good group last year and they’re loaded with guards right now. I would think it’s going to take them a minute to assess everything.”

Britt also is trying to reschedule an unofficial visit to Georgetown; he was supposed to go last month but it was cancelled as Georgetown coaches and administrators traveled to Dave Gavitt’s funeral.

Britt probably will attend midnight madness festivities Oct. 14 at North Carolina, his father said, though it also is possible he attends Maryland’s events that night.

“I think it’s probably Carolina at this point,” Britt Sr. said. “But we’re still trying to work that out, too.”

I’ll have a post on Gonzaga junior forward Kris Jenkins and his recruiting this afternoon.
