Darby, the highly-regarded cornerback, has narrowed his choices to Florida State, Florida, Auburn and possibly Notre Dame, according to Potomac Coach Ronnie Crump.
It is believed that Florida State is his most likely choice.
Although Crump earlier this month said that Maryland cutting its men’s track program was not a dealbreaker for the Terrapins’ recruiting efforts, Crump on Wednesday evening said he had been mistaken. Darby is considered one of the nation’s top high school sprinters.
“It’s not going to happen,” Crump said of Darby landing in College Park. “I wish it happened. I wish he would have considered Maryland. I will give Maryland credit, they did recruit Ron Darby. Please let this area know that. They did their due diligence.”
Darby is expected to announce his college choice Feb. 1, the first day that high school seniors can sign a binding National Letter-of-Intent.
Darby had committed to Notre Dame in April, but continued to evaluate other schools and earlier this morth decommitted from the Fighting Irish.
