Stone Bridge two-time All-Met DL narrows choices to Florida, Alabama; attends Gators spring game

Stone Bridge two-time All-Met defensive lineman Jonathan Allen has seen a rush of scholarship offers since the end of his junior season, but the 6-3, 215-pound pass rusher said he narrowed his list to Florida and Alabama.

Allen visited Florida this past weekend and was on the sidelines at the Gators’ spring game, taking in the scene of the more than 38,000 fans that attended.

“Oh man, I really enjoyed it,” Allen said. “I didn’t think I was going to like it that much. I just loved the atmosphere, I just felt real welcomed when I went down there. It was real nice, the whole experience.”

Allen has offers from, among others, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Maryland, Penn State, Virginia, North Carolina and Stanford, but he said he knew almost immediately that he wanted to play football in the SEC.

When Florida and Alabama entered the picture – Allen also has an offer from Auburn – Allen said he knew that the race was down to those two traditional powers, though Florida struggled through a 7-6 campaign last season.

Allen met with many of the Gators coaches during his visit and said he has an idea of how they would use him if he headed to Gainesville.

“They would have me play the ‘buck’ position,” Allen said. “It’s a lot of moving around, defensive end to outside linebacker. It seems fun actually.”

Allen said he also plans to visit Alabama in May.
