After two innings, it appeared as though Broad Run softball coach Ed Steele would be stuck on 399 wins for at least another day as his team had dug itself an early 4-0 hole on Monday night against Brentsville. The Spartan bats heated up as the game went on, however, and a four-run fifth inning helped propel them to a 7-4 win. Steele, who first took the job in 1992, has compiled an impressive winning percentage of .795 over his 21 seasons in Ashburn. Broad Run (11-3, 5-2), which shut out Freedom-South Riding 9-0 on Tuesday night, has scheduled a pregame ceremony to honor coach Steele’s milestone before Friday’s game against Stonewall Jackson that is scheduled for 5:50 p.m.
