Springbrook G Andrew Robinson adding offers, dimensions to his game

December 4, 2013

Springbrook senior Andrew Robinson scored plenty of points (17.5 points per game) and interest from college coaches in his junior year. But now, as his senior season begins this week, the 6-foot 5 guard with the smooth shooting touch has added several scholarship offers to his collection and worked to add a new weapon to his already explosive scoring arsenal.

Robinson said he spent the summer working on becoming a more complete scorer. For a player with a solid outside game and good inside instincts, that meant working on going to the basket more and further developing his ability to create close-range opportunities for himself.

As he worked to round out his game during summer workouts and AAU games, his recruiting picked up. Robinson now holds Division I offers from Delaware, Drexel, Towson, Sienna, Marshall, Robert Morris,Binghamton, LIU Brooklyn and UMBC. He’s already taken an official visit to Drexel, but says he’ll spend the next few months focusing on Springbrook’s season and commit when that is complete.

With a more complete version of Robinson in the backcourt, the Blue Devils’ season may not be over for quite some time. Robinson is already the top returning scorer in Montgomery County, and only one of what he says are several scoring threats on the Springbrook roster.

“I think right now we have a lot of people who can score,” Robinson said, citing his twin brother Aaron. “I think everybody on the floor can score. So we’re going to try to put up some points.”

Last year, the Blue Devils finished 14-10, but only 3-7 in the Montgomery County 4A East before falling in the first round of the playoffs. With three of the team’s top five scorers gone to graduation, Robinson said he feels it’s his turn to step up on a team of several players who he says have the offensive ability to do the same.

“I also worked on trying to become more of a team leader [over the summer],” Robinson said. “Just to help the team. I was a leader last year, but I was working on still becoming more of a leader and complete player.”

He says he’s seen Springbrook’s mentality grow over the summer, as well.

“This year, we’re more of a team,” Robinson said. “We have one goal: a championship. So everybody’s working towards a championship, whereas last year, once we started losing games, it felt like everybody started playing for themselves. So this year I think we should be a lot better.”

NUMBER CRUNCH: 3

Three of the top 10 scorers from Montgomery County return this year: Robinson, Einstein’s Joe Bradshaw (16.4 ppg) and Clarksburg’s Josh Hardy (15.9 ppg).
