Briar Woods sends eight girls’ soccer players to college

After serving as the core for the best season in Briar Woods’ girls’ soccer history, leading the Falcons to the Virginia AA Region II championship and a state title game appearance, eight seniors finalized their plans to play college soccer last week.

The following players committed or signed to play at the next level:

D/MF Kira Warner – Christopher Newport (Intended major: science)
Scored one goal last season.

F/MF/D Alexis Haycraft – Christopher Newport (Intended major: English)
Recorded five goals and two assists last season.

MF Elizabeth Reid – McDaniel College (Intended major: Political Science)
Tallied five goals and one assist last season.

Briana Kulisch – Stetson University

MF/D Carly Melkus – Christopher Newport (Intended major: Neuroscience)
Had five goals and five assists last season.

GK Tori Riopelle -Rensselaer Polytechnic (Intended major: Engineering)
Recorded 103 saves last season.

F McKensey Zeigler – Radford University (Intended major: Elementary Education)
Recorded a team-high 14 goals and four assists last season.

F Emma Quirk – Virginia Military Institute (Intended major: English with minor in Arabic)
Tallied 10 goals and seven assists last season.
