Broad Run DB Chuck Davis lists Indiana as early front-runner

When Broad Run defensive back Chuck Davis initially donned the Spartans jersey as a freshman, he stood 5 foot 7 and weighed 125 pounds. The diminutive Davis earned a varsity roster spot in the fall of 2012, and late in the regular season he was thrust into the starting lineup after a concussion forced the starting safety to be sidelined.

Davis finished his freshman campaign with two interceptions and has since grown three inches and now weighs 170 pounds. And after a junior campaign in which he became known as one of the fiercest hitters in Northern Virginia, Davis has added Indiana, East Carolina and Charlotte offers to his first offer from North Carolina.

The No. 33 cornerback in the country according to ESPN, Davis visited Indiana a couple weeks ago and in a phone interview Wednesday said the Hoosiers have the edge over East Carolina, Charlotte and North Carolina.

“Their campus was crazy man, it was the best experience for me of all my visits and they showed me a lot of love,” Davis said. “They took me to the Kelley School of Business, which was really informational and I liked it a lot.”

Indiana offered the fleet-footed defensive back in March during a phone call with safeties coach Noah Joseph. Davis said he’s also received interest from Boston College, Ohio, Duke, Virginia and Alabama. But most coaches have told him that they want to see him play at 180 pounds before extending an offer.

He’s spent his spring lifting in the Spartans weight room with a new weight program implemented by Broad Run Coach Matt Griffis that is very similar to Virginia Tech’s. Outside of school, he’s training with Adam Wooten in Ashburn who has trained other Loudoun County football standouts including Briar Woods quarterback Trace McSorley and wide receiver Brandon Polk.

“He’s definitely helped me with my quick twitch muscles,” Davis said of Wooten. “I’ve always been a quick guy but he’s teaching me to be even faster when the ball is snapped.”

Davis plans to visit East Carolina this spring and wants to make a decision by August. This weekend he will participate in the Nike Training Football Combine at Centreville alongside many of the region’s best prospects.

“I just want to prove that I’m a lock down corner and that I can compete with the best,” Davis said.
