C.H. Flowers junior G/F De’Janae Boykin was named Monday to USA Basketball’s U17 roster for the 2014 world championships. The games will be played in the Czech Republic beginning in late June.
Boykin won a gold medal at the 2013 world championships with the U16 team, and is one of six players from that roster to make this year’s team. The reigning Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year was chosen to the 12-player roster from a pool of 145 players after four days of tryouts in Colorado Springs.
The 6-2, 155-pound Boykin recently committed to the University of Connecticut, and was a first-team All-Met selection this season for the Jaguars, who she joined as a sophomore after transferring from Riverdale Baptist to go to school with her younger brother. Boykin led Flowers to a 17-2 record while averaging more than 21 points, nearly 16 rebounds a game, and seven assists per game.
