Local products head to first NFL training camps

Former D.C.-area high school football stars feature prominently on several NFL rosters. From the 49ers NaVorro Bowman (Suitland) and Vernon Davis (Dunbar), to the Cardinals’ Darnell Dockett (Paint Branch), to the Browns’ Joe Haden (Friendly), former All-Met standouts are reporting to training camps all over the country this week. Among those reporting will be several rookies hoping to earn their first NFL jobs. Here’s a list of D.C.-area products in their first training camps:


Cyrus Kouandjio, OT (DeMatha):  played at Alabama, drafted by the Bills in the second round with the 44th pick.

Jeremiah Attaochu, OL (Carroll): played at Georgia Tech, drafted by the Chargers in the second round with the 50th pick.

Luke Bowanko, OL (Centreville): played at Virginia. Drafted by the Jaguars in the sixth round with the 205th pick.

Michael Campanaro, WR (River Hill): played at Wake Forest. Drafted by the Ravens in the seventh round with the 218th pick.

Undrafted (signed as undrafted free agents): 

Damien Thigpen, RB (Stonewall Jackson): played at UCLA, signed by the Cardinals

Louis Young, CB (Good Counsel): played at Georgia Tech, signed by the Broncos

Jerome Couplin, DB (Bishop McNamara): played at William and Mary, signed by the Lions

Mohammed Seisay, CB (West Springfield): played at Nebraska, signed by the Lions  

Zach Kerr, DT (Quince Orchard): played at Delaware, signed by the Colts

Eric Pike, OT (DuVal): played at Towson, signed by the Colts

Marcus Whitfield, LB (Northwest): played at Maryland, signed by the Jaguars

Travis Hawkins, DB (Quince Orchard): played at Delaware, signed by the Patriots

Brandon Coleman, WR (Bishop McNamara): played at Rutgers, signed by the Saints

Jordan Stanton, DT (Robinson): played at James Madison, signed by the Giants

Zach Thompson, DE (Stone Bridge): played at Wake Forest, signed by the Jets

Howard Jones, DE (Freedom-Woodbridge): played at Shepherd, signed by the Steelers

Trey Watts, RB (Oakton): played at Tulsa, signed by the Rams
