The future president, right, with his father, Barack Obama Sr.

A new biography says Barack Obama’s father told an immigration official in 1961 he and his then-wife planned to give the future president up for adoption. Obviously it didn’t happen — and relatives said they never heard any such talk, writes Sally Jacobs, whose bio of Barack Obama Sr. is out next week. Jacobs writes in the Boston Globe that it’s possible the Kenyan native — whose relationships back home were a red flag for officials weighing whether to extend his stay in the U.S. — talked up adoption so they wouldn’t view him as “a bigamist with a mixed-race baby.” The White House said the president had never heard the story and does not believe his mother ever talked to social workers about adoption.
