Bob and Elizabeth Dole have always been dog people, and proved it again Sunday when they threw a birthday party for Leader, their 13-year-old miniature schnauzer, and 16 other dogs — who had the run of their Watergate apartment.
“Leader loved it,” Elizabeth told us. “His tail was wagging and he greeted every guest like a perfect host.”
The menu included hot dogs, corn dogs, hush puppies and a cake with Leader’s face. Oh, and doggie bags for everyone.
Leader is officially Leader II, a successor to the pooch made famous during Dole’s 1996 presidential campaign. The household now includes Blazer, Leader’s 2-year-old son. That means’s he was 77 (in dog years) when. . . why, Leader, you old dog, you!
