Celebvocate: Glenn Close on mental health treatment

Event: Mental health symposium at the Reserve Officers Association on Wednesday.

Bona fides: Emmy, Golden Globe, Tony Awards; mental health activist.

Backup: Sister Jessie Close, who has bipolar disorder, and Jessie’s terrier, Snits.

What she wants: To de-stigmatize the treatment of mental health disorders.

How she looked: Casual, elegant, tweed jacket with elbow patches.

How she sounded: Theatrical. Close performed two monologues (one as an Upper East Side mental health advocate, another as a Montana rancher) and scene-setting portrayals of mentally ill vagrants she encountered back in her early Broadway days.
