Fox News offers free shuttles, gets few takers from Democratic conventioneers

CHARLOTTE — Who says there’s no such thing as a free ride? Amid all the gratis buffets and open bars offered up by media organizations and lobbying interests, Fox News was offering a unique benefit for conventioneers — free shuttles, wherever you want to go downtown.

Sounds great, right? Not necessarily for these Democratic conventioneers. A couple of lobbyists told us they happily took up the offer when one of Fox’s logo-covered SUVs pulled up alongside and asked if they wanted a lift — but that the driver told him many others were refusing on partisan grounds. Including, he said, two women who turned him down despite getting drenched in Tuesday night’s downpour. “No! You’re Fox News!” they told him. Another driver, though, reported he’d had no trouble finding riders.
