• Marion Barry growling his way through an old blues tune Thursday night at Tony & Joe’s in Georgetown — sounded like a breezy version of “Every Day I Have the Blues,” maybe. Not that unusual for the ex-mayor to pick the mic; he showed off his karaoke skills at his 76th birthday last spring. At a party celebrating the re-opening of the waterfront landmark, nearly a year and a half after last year’s floods, Barry entertained the likes of Vincent Gray, Jack Evans, Vincent Orange, and Sonny Jurgensen. (Updated, 9/15:
Barry sang again on Friday night, this time at Madam’s Organ.)
• Shaquille O’Neal taping a TV news interview on a balcony of the Cannon House Office Building rotunda — as several lawmakers (including Reps. Jim Clyburn and Jeff Flake) lingered on the sidelines waiting to say hi and get a photo with him. The NBA legend was making the celebvocacy rounds on behalf of the Century Council’s anti-binge drinking campaign. Black suit (extra-large, one assumes), red tie, slight limp as he walked.
