• MC Hammer at the Caps game Tuesday night, reaching down from his seat in the owner’s box to greet fans. “It’s the home opener,” the hip-hop legend, in town for inaugural events, told our colleague Sarah Kogod. “What better place to be?”
• Richard Blanco — the poet you may recognize from his reading of the inaugural poem at the swearing-in Monday — dropping by the Library of Congress Wednesday. Natasha Trethewey, the U.S. poet laureate, currently doing a poet-in-residence stint at the library, invited him to come say hi.
• Dikembe Mutombo stuck outside the the orange gate at 1st and D NW with the rest of the ticketed crowd trying to get to the swearing-in. Looked like the retired NBA star made it in eventually.
• Gabrielle Union, Nicole Ari-Parker and Boris Kodjoe wandering the hallways of the National Portrait Gallery Monday after they were turned away from the BET/Hennessy inaugural ball when the room hit capacity. They ended up getting a mini-tour of the museum as a publicist sneaked them through the back corridors to another entrance.
