Coach John Thompson Jr. in 2007. (John McDonnell/TWP) • John Thompson Jr. making a surprise appearance at St. Anselm’s Abbey School in Northeast Washington Sunday afternoon. The beloved Georgetown coach showed up for the school’s 65th invitational basketball tournament’s championship game. Nostalgia hit for Thompson, who coached the now-defunct St. Anthony’s High School’s team to the win in 1968.
