Gottfried and Aflac duck, in happier times.

• Too soon? Um, yeah. Raspy-voiced comedian Gilbert Gottfried was fired Monday from his longtime gig as the voice of the Aflac duck after he made a series of tasteless tsunami jokes on Twitter. “There is no place for anything but compassion and concern during these difficult times,” Michael Zuna, the insurer’s chief marketing officer, said in a statement to the Associated Press. Aflac Inc., which does 75 percent of its business in Japan and is bracing for an avalanche of claims, announced previously it’s giving $1.2 million to the Red Cross to help with the disaster. Gottfried has since deleted the unwise tweets.
