In other news...: Hillary Clinton’s allergies, William and Kate coming to U.S., Laura Bush to head Mall fundraising; Gingrich, Santorum off Fox

Hillary Clinton gasps, or maybe just coughs, while watching the Osama bin Laden raid in the White House situation room.
• That dramatic photo of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the Situation Room during the raid on Osama bin Laden? Clinton told reporters Thursday she had no idea what was happening when she was covering her mouth, the moment the picture was snapped. “I am somewhat sheepishly concerned that it was my preventing one of my early spring allergic coughs. So, it may have no great meaning whatsoever.”

• The royal newlyweds are coming to the United States this summer. Palace officials confirmed Thursday that William and Kate will spend three days in California (maybe a LA visit with wedding guests David and Victoria Beckham?) after their tour of Canada in early July. This will be William’s first official trip to the U.S.; Kate’s first ever.

• Former first lady Laura Bush will head the $350 million effort to restore the National Mall, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced at the annual fundraising lunch Thursday.

Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, two maybe-candidates for president, have been terminated as commentators by Fox News. The news channel suspended them in March and had given them until last Sunday to make up their minds about whether they’re running, and both have since taken baby steps in that direction (an exploratory committee for Santorum, a campaign office for Gingrich). Fox commentators Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee may face the same decision soon, too.
