In other news: Jill Kelley loses honorary consul title

Jill Kelley, the Tampa socialite caught up in the David Petraeus scandal, is losing her “honorary consul” title from South Korea because she used it for personal gain, reports the Associated Press. During the Republican National Convention, Kelley touted her connection with Petraeus and wanted a 2 percent commission for a no-bid coal deal with South Korea, said Adam Victor, president of TransGas Development Systems. Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Kyou-hyun weighed in Monday: “It’s not suitable to the status of honorary consul that [she] sought to be involved in commercial projects and peddle influence.” Kelley received the ceremonial honor — a goodwill ambassador with no official privileges — in August and really got into it: She had license plates with the title on her Mercedes and asked police for “diplomatic protection” when reporters surrounded her house early this month.
