• A freelance photographer was hit and killed New Year’s Day when he crossed a busy L.A. roadway in an attempt to snap a picture of Justin Bieber’s Ferrari, reports the L.A. Times. The star wasn’t even in the car, which cops had pulled over for speeding (a pal was driving) but responded by calling on the state to tighten regulations on paparazzi: “Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation.” (Read more from AP: Paparazzo killed after photographing Justin Bieber’s car)

• Uber-preppy designer Tory Burch has settled a year-long legal brawl with ex-husband Chris Burch — she claimed his new C. Wonder chain ripped off her boutiques, he claimed she kept him from selling his shares in her company. Under their deal, he’ll keep some of his stake in her $800 million business, reports the New York Times.

• Bobby Womack says he’s been diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer’s. The R&B legend, 68, told a BBC interviewer that he has a hard time remembering his hits (notably, “It’s All Over Now,” covered by the Rolling Stones) or collaborators (he recently blanked on the name of the producer of his new comeback album). “How can I not remember songs that I wrote? That’s frustrating.”
